At Kelvinside Academy we aim to make the admissions process as relaxed and informative as possible.
Our Director of Admissions, Mrs Kerry Bottomley, will be your main point of contact throughout the admission process and will be happy to discuss any questions you may have along the way.
Kelvinside Academy is a co-educational, independent school in the West of Scotland, catering for girls and boys between the ages of 3 and 18. The school has 3 stages: Nursery, the Junior School (P1 – P6) and the Senior School (P7 – Senior 6). Although it is selective, the school caters for a wide range of abilities and educational needs.
At Kelvinside Academy, we offer an enriching and supportive environment, which empowers our girls and boys to achieve their potential academically at the same time as developing into confident and well-rounded individuals. We are looking for bright, curious, motivated children who have a commitment to academic and personal development and not simply the straight ‘A’ students.
Whilst the majority of new pupils to the School have no direct connection with Kelvinside Academy particular consideration is priority is given to siblings of current pupils and also to children of Academicals, so long as they will benefit from a Kelvinside Academy education.
The usual admissions process is as follows:
Stage 1: Request a prospectus
Most families will initially ask us to send them a prospectus and will then get back in touch with us with their questions. It is also a great idea to have a browse through our website.
Stage 2: Individual visits
We believe it is very important for families to see round our school on a normal school day. Only that way is it possible for parents and their children to sample our family ethos, appreciate the very favourable teacher to pupil ratio and gain an insight into life at Kelvinside Academy. Admissions visits involve a tour and meeting with The Rector, Head of Junior School or Head of Nursery and time for questions with the Director of Admissions. Call to arrange a time that is convenient for you and your family to see round the school on a normal working day.
Stage 3: Application form
If you then wish to apply for a place we ask that you complete an application form. We will then automatically keep you updated with information regarding entry exams and open days.
Stage 4: Taster Days
We encourage all applicants to Junior and Senior School to have a taster day at school where they join a class for the day. They would also have the chance to sit the assessment papers during their time with us. Having the opportunity to meet some possible future classmates and gettting to know the staff and facilities can be a real benefit to potential students.
Stage 5: Assessment
Assessments vary for each class – please now go to the stage relevant to the chosen entry level for your child.
