Nurturing potential within a caring, happy and stimulating environmentJunior Start provides pre-school education for the full two years before compulsory education in Junior One. It is led by an experienced teacher, highly qualified in early education, and a team of qualified Nursery nurses. It is housed, in an imaginatively adapted building with its own private gardens, adjacent to the main school. The light, spacious and colourful accommodation provides the ideal environment for our youngest pupils at the start of their school careers. ![]() A programme of activities, which recognises the strengths and development needs of each child, is designed to stir their natural curiosity and fire their imaginations. They are introduced to relevant numerical concepts and pre-reading and writing skills at appropriate stages. Our children are encouraged to play and explore, to make choices and decisions. In the Blue Room for example, they enjoy language based activities, including the writing table, listening table and book corner. The Red Room contains computers, a games table, a jigsaw and construction area. Then there is the Wet Room, the Physical Room, the gardens... Full use is made of school resources, including the sports hall, gymnasium and the School library. Trips and out-of-school activities, including swimming, are routine, as are visitors from interesting places! A close partnership is encouraged with parents, with ample opportunity to become involved and to liaise. In Junior Start One (Pre-4) the children attend 5 afternoon sessions per week, from 1.00 - 3.30pm. There is a limited number of whole day places available. Boys and Girls in Junior Start Two (Pre-School) attend 5 mornings or 5 full days, from 8.30 - 12.30pm or 8.30 - 3.30pm. We offer the additional facility of 'Late Waiting' care from 3.30 - 5.30pm in term time. For those children who attend in the morning or all day, lunch is provided. Our partnership with Glasgow City Council allows parents a rebate for some or most of the cost of pre-school education. |
