Her Majesty's Inspectors of Education (HMIe) report on Kelvinside Academy

HM Inspectors identified the following key strengths:HMIe Logo
  • The care and support for pupils demonstrated by all staff.
  • Well motivated pupils and their enthusiastic participation and success in a wide range of achievements.
  • Overall high levels of attainment at S4 to S6, most notably in computing.
  • Curricular and vocational guidance which prepared pupils very effectively for the world of work and higher education.
  • Productive partnerships with parents and a wide range of external organisations.
  • Leadership of the headteacher and his commitment to providing high quality education for all pupils.

As an all through school of some 640 pupils, we are committed to an all-round education. We work closely with our parents to create an environment in which boys and girls can achieve their potential both academically and in the wider sense.

We are delighted that the school’s distinctive characteristics, qualities and strengths have been so clearly recognised.

We welcome also the points for action identified by the Inspectors to continue the development of the education we offer. In particular this will focus on further improving aspects of the curriculum and approaches to teaching and learning as well as the ways we monitor and evaluate the work of the school.

Consider also the close identity of the key strengths identified, with the core values of Kelvinside Academy:
  • Commitment to the whole child - a smaller school, with small classes, an education which is all-through and all-round.
  • An appetite for learning and development - shaping our pupils, our staff, the education offered and the organisation which delivers.
  • Culture of excellence - the aspiration of our pupils, our staff, our school.
  • Commitment to others: respect, tolerance, unselfishness, empathy - shared by staff and pupils: towards each other, towards the community, towards the wider world.
  • Positive partnerships - with parents, former pupils, external organisations.
