The Role Of The Governing Body
The Governing Body is responsible for determining the aims and overall conduct of the school.  It sets and reviews the policies, plans and procedures that will ensure the best possible education for present and future pupils of the school, including the proper control of its finances.

NORRIE FYFE, MA (Hons), LLB (Chairman)

Norrie joined the Board in 2008 and was elected Chair in 2010. A graduate of St Andrews and Edinburgh Universities, he is a solicitor and one of the senior partners in a long-established prominent Glasgow legal firm.

Married to Lucy, their three children have all been very fortunate to benefit from the KA Educational Experience.

When he finds time away from School and work commitments, Norrie is involved in a number of charitable activities including David Cargill House and Glasgow Old People’s Welfare Association. He attempts to play golf and his preferred mode of transport is his bike.

COLIN KERR , BSc (Vice Chair)

Colin, a former pupil of KA, is married to Fiona and both of their children attend Kelvinside Academy. Trained as an electrician, he finally gained a BSc. in Electrical Engineering at Strathclyde University. He is involved in a variety of business interests in Automation and Renewable technologies.

Colin joined the Board in 2006 and was elected Vice Chairman in 2010. He enjoys regular trips to Portugal to recharge his “green” batteries.

KEN CAIRNDUFF

Ken was elected to the Board of Governors in 2007. He formed and built a well known fashion and homeware retail chain, which he sold in 2006. His business interests are now in property and other opportunities. Married to Margaret, their three children have attended or attend KA.

Ken believes very strongly in self-motivation and entrepreneurship, and also a relaxing glass of wine of a Friday evening.

SANDY DALZIEL

Sandy was the first former pupil of KA (he believes) to be selected for the Scottish Schoolboys Rugby XV. He built one of the largest food ingredient companies in the UK, and following his retiral now holds various non-executive positions. Sandy still finds time to participate in the more leisurely pursuits of golf and gardening.

He continues his family connections with KA through several grandchildren who are pupils, and joined the Board in 2010.

MRS EILEEN M. DAVIS, BA (HONS), PGCE

Eileen was educated at Queen Mary School, Lytham, Lancashire and is a graduate of the University of Hull. Married to Keith, Eileen was elected to the Board in 2010, and her wide educational experience has brought a fresh perspective to the Board.

She has had a distinguished teaching career in both State and Independent Schools, and was appointed Principal of St. Margaret’s School, Edinburgh in 2001 until her retirement in 2009.

Eileen is a Rotarian, with many other interests, including playing the piano and foreign travel.

RICHARD B EADIE, LLM, FRICS

Richard was a pupil at Kelvinside and since has played a prominent role in Academical life. As President of the Kelvinside Academical Club, he was co-opted to the Board ex-officio in 2006 and was elected a full member in 2008.  Married to Myra, their three boys all attended Kelvinside.

Richard is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor and a Trustee of the Minerva Trust.

W FRAME ESQ, LLB, FRICS, FCIarb

Bill, a Kelvinside Academical, is a chartered surveyor in the field of construction and a well-known chartered arbiter dealing with building contract disputes. Bill has been a Board member since 1995 and is a past Chairman. He currently chairs the Minerva Educational Trust.

A council member with the Royal Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts, Bill finds time for tennis, golf and spends many peaceful hours fishing.

COLIN MACKENZIE, LLB, DIP, LP, NP

A former pupil of KA, Colin graduated from Aberdeen University with an LLB. He is now managing partner of a well-known firm of solicitors in Stirling. Colin has maintained strong links with the school and was elected to the Board in 2010.

A resident of Bridge of Allan, married to Nicola with two children. An accomplished golfer and keen tennis player, he enjoys spending weekends with the family in Blair Atholl. Colin is a trustee of Bridge of Allan Civic Trust.

DONALD N. McGILLIVRAY, LLB, NP

Donald was a pupil at Kelvinside Academy between 1963 and 1971. Donald has practiced as a solicitor in Glasgow for over 30 years and presently a consultant to a southside Glasgow legal firm. Married to Carole, they have a daughter and a son both of whom are now well past School age.

Prior to becoming a governor in 2007, Donald had maintained his connection with KA over the years by playing rugby and thereafter curling for Kelvinside Academical Curling Club of which he was President in 2008/2009 and 2009/2010.

NEIL J MCNEILL, CA

Neil became a member of the Board of Governors in [1999]. Neil is a Chartered Accountant who prior to his retirement was the Scottish managing partner of one the UK`s major professional services firms. Married to Marbe , they have a daughter and two sons both of whom attended the school .

Neil has been the Chairman of the Finance Committee for a number of years and keeps a tight rein on the School’s finances. Neil’s other interests include driving for Age Concern, Treasurer of Giffnock Theatre Players, and travelling to interesting places.

COLIN RUTHERFORD, FCIBS, MBA

Born and educated in Stirling, Colin is a career banker with over 32 years experience in a variety of roles. Colin is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland and holds an MBA from Strathclyde University. Colin joined the Board of Kelvinside Academy in December 2000.

Colin’s interests include sport, music, food and travel. Colin is married to Susan and they have two children who were educated at Kelvinside.

IAN C STRATHDEE (ex officio)

Currently President of the Kelvinside Academical Club, Ian was educated at Kelvinside Academy and thereafter the Glasgow College of Building. Ian has participated in many Academical Club Sections since leaving school.

Ian is a Chartered Arbitrator and a Chartered Quantity Surveyor with 46 years experience in the construction industry. Ian joined the Board in 2011 as an ex officio member in his role as KA Club President.


 
 
audrina mcdowall.jpgANDRINA MCDOWALL, LLB (Hons), Dip LP
Andrina was elected to the Board in 2011. A qualified solicitor, Andrina spent 15 years working in the commercial property sector before starting her family and is, at present, a full-time mum. Married to David, their three children all attend Kelvinside Academy.

Andrina has long had a love of cooking and has a large eclectic collection of well-thumbed cookbooks - as a result she has taken up running and swimming to work off the effects.

Married to David, Jillian has three children who all attend Kelvinside Academy. Jillian has been working for thirty years in the private sector, mainly in customer service and latterly in recruitment and HR.

Jillian was elected to the Board in 2011 and her outside interests include supporting Children’s 1st Charity as one of the organisers of the Heather Ball as well as spending down time in Kippford .
