Glasgow Philharmonic Male Voice Choir
glasgow philharmonic.jpg Six boys from Kelvinside Academy's Senior Choir had the wonderful opportunity to visit the Glasgow Philharmonic Male Voice Choir to sing in their rehearsal.  The choir is looking for choral scholars for the coming season of concerts.  The boys were amazed by the sound of the choir and also the fantastic age range - the youngest member being 19 and the oldest member being 91!

Pictured with the choir are Adam Moran, Michael Cunningham, Felix Welch, Ruaraidh Cairnduff, Jamie Figes and Lewis McGhee.

Ben Nevis Expedition
Crossing the riverWaterfallSummit Cairn As with all outdoor activities the weather will dictate how that particular expedition will unfold; the Corrour expedition was no exception.  The trip had to be put on hold due to very heavy rain and high winds but all was not lost as the expedition was quickly changed and we all headed to Fort William to tackle "The Ben".

The Saturday involved walking around to the eastern side of Ben Nevis to attempt the Carn Mor Dearg arete (CMD Arete) which is certainly a much more hands on approach to the summit but sadly we were beaten back by high winds.  Not to be deterred we decided to try again the very next day, albeit by a different route.  This included a 05:30hrs reveille, much to the horror of Jamie McLucas!  All those on the expedition were up for the challenge, at least until the really steep sections, when cries of "how much further?" came thick and fast.  The summit plateau had much more snow than usual for this time of year, an indication of the unusually high snow fall encountered this winter; but this proved to be a great experience for everyone as we walked alongside the protruding cornices and sheer cliffs en route to the summit cairn.  At 10.15am we were 1344 metres above sea level, the highest people in the UK.  Sadly we had to make our way back off the summit.
