This year's Brimham Rocks climbing expedition was centred in Markington, a small village north of Harrogate. The club were very fortunate with the weather over the bank holiday weekend which allowed even more routes than last year to be tackled including the famous Great Western climb which is the best climb in Yorkshire. A special mention must be given to Stuart Dougal who not only successfully climbed this route, graded Hard Very Severe (HVS), but made it look easy in the process; well done. Another mention must be given to Fraser Wiseman who, after only having climbed a handful of times, amazed everyone there with his natural talent by completing numerous Very Severe (VS) graded climbs and coming very close to completeing the HVS and an E1....
The weekend had a relaxed feel about it; not only was there climbing but swimming, BBQ's and a visit to the cinema being on offer. The climbing weekend was enjoyed by all that took part; we are looking forward to the next one.
Anyone wishing to join the climbing club should speak to Mr. McAlister.

Following on from CCF Field Day, cadets from the RAF Section and 1333 (Grangemouth) Squadron - Air Training Corps got together for an afternoon of shooting at the Dismounted Close Combat Trainer (DCCT) last Saturday at Dreghorn Army Barracks. Cadets Heather Turner, Ross Johnston and Joe Young (all S3), together with section staff Fg Off Jonathan Paterson and Civilian Instructor Anne Stewart, participated in the activity, kindly hosted by the Army Training Regiment of the 51st (Scottish) Brigade.
In addition to shooting, the group were also invited to learn more about the British Army diversifying the cadets' perspectives of the public services.
However, it was the cadets of Kelvinside who demonstrated the long lineage of shooting talent associated with the section, with Cadet Turner scoring one of the highest marks of the entire shoot - not bad for her first experience of full-bore shooting, meaning she should more than secure her cadet marksmanship award at the forthcoming Activities Week. Ms. Stewart also proved herself to be a crack-shot, achieving a staggering 23mm grouping in her best round. A case of beginners luck, or untapped skill?
