Ben Alder Expedition
d of e correction.jpg An impressive 42 pupils completed Bronze and Silver expeditions near Ben Alder over the September weekend.  Groups followed three different routes that all passed by Culra bothy just below Ben Alder.  Bronze groups walked between Loch Laggan and Dalwhinnie and travelled back to Glasgow by train.  They spent a pleasant night camping by Loch Pattack.

After walking in from Loch Laggan and camping at Culra bothy, the two silver groups had a tough second day.  Their route went through the bealach dudh, around the back of Ben Alder and down to Ben Alder cottage.  For Fiona Dickson, Andrew Merrylees and co this was completed in good time and they made the steep ascent to the saddle below Ben Alder and Beinn Bheoil and were camped by Loch Pattack by 5pm.  The second group had a much longer day when after making good speed to Ben Alder cottage, Lynsey twisted her ankle and the group had to help her to the bothy and fetch help from staff waiting at the next checkpoint.  After a bit of first aid, Lynsey and Mr McAlister caught a lift by boat back to Dalwhinnie courtesy of one of the stalking parties in the area.  The last day saw the two Silver groups march at top speed from Culra back out to the minibus at Dalwhinnie, keen to get dry clothes and get to the cafe.  Back in school all those on qualifying expeditions are now writing their reports before log books get the official signature.

Future Leaders attend Philosophy and Ethics Conference
Mrs Matthews and the Higher RMPS students recently attended a Philosophy and Ethics Conference.  The keynote speaker was Dr Peter Vardy from the University of London.  Dr Vardy is a compelling speaker and he certainly raised many contemporary moral issues.  The pupils listened to lectures on the wars in Afghanistan and Kosovo, stem cell research and business ethics.  As future leaders, Dr Vardy left all with much to think about.
