The Ben Nevis expedition was beaten back once again by the weather; instead the location was changed to the Mamores just south of the Nevis Range. The route in question was to be 14km long and included the summiting of two munros, Binnein Mor (Big Peak) and Na Gruagaichean (The Maidens). The day was very windy, with gusts of up to 70 mph, but this only heightened the sense of being in the Scottish mountains and morale remained high. The summit of Binnein Mor is regarded as one of the finest in the Mamores due to its shapely peak and due to the views it offers of the 15km Mamore ridge, sadly that Sunday it offered neither due to the thick cloud and hail stones battering against our faces; although, this brings a realim to days on the hill. We then forged on to the twin summits of Na Gruagaichean and then the final descent to our warm, dry minibus.
