The school's philosophy is to enrich the education of pupils by providing a stimulating and competitive environment for all regardless of ability.
Competitions and matches against other schools take place in a variety of sports, within age group boundaries, and at differing ability levels. Through this philosophy it is hoped that as many pupils as possible will benefit from representing their school. Kelvinside Academy has, over a considerable period of time, enjoyed sporting success and our pupils have attained district and national representation in both team and individual sports. The main games for the Winter and Spring Terms are Rugby and Hockey. However other sports such as cross country running, shooting, ice skating, curling, badminton, soccer, squash and aerobics are part of a multi-sports package for more senior boys and girls. In the Summer Term, Athletics, Cricket and Tennis are the main games, while senior pupils again have the opportunity to develop their interests in golf, soccer, badminton, to name but a few. Spring term options for younger pupils in Senior School are also being developed.
In addition to the officially timetabled games programme, our boys and girls are encouraged to develop their interests through club and recreational activities which take place regularly both at lunchtimes and after school. Again there is a wide diversity including, curling, ice skating, basketball, volleyball, soccer, skiing, sailing, table tennis, Aikido. Inter-House competitions are keenly contested. The Games programme is complemented by a structured programme of Physical Education, a part of the core curriculum in every year from Junior 1 to Senior 4.
