AcademicJames Latter (S6) has a conditional offer from Clare College, Cambridge to read Natural Sciences.
ChoirMatthew Pattie (S6) and Andrew Pattie (S4) are members of
the National Youth Choir of Scotland Training Choir. Andrew is also in
his sixth year of membership of the National Boys’ Choir.
Orchestra
The following pupils participated in the West of Scotland Independent
Schools Orchestra: Matthew Pattie (S6), Gabriella Biazotti (S5), Andrew
Pattie (S4), Thomas Merryless (S1), Laura McNeil (S2).
Rugby
Kelvinside Academy's U18 rugby squad won the Bell Lawrie Scottish
Schools' Rugby Plate Competition recently. The squad beat Queen
Victoria School, Dunblane, 17-0 in the final at New Anniesland. The
group travelled to Sale, Manchester, for a training session with Sale
Sharks in early April where they also played two games.
CurlingRoss Thompson (skip), Adam Shaftoe (third), Leo Walden
(Second) and Stephen Rutherford (Lead) won the Miller Drummond Low Road
Trophy in March 2008. Ross Thompson (skip) and Tracey Kelly (third)
also won the Wilkinson Sword in the Glasgow Schools’ Bonspiel and Adam
Shaftoe (skip) won the Low Road. Alasdair Schreiber (S3) played lead in
the curling team which represented the West of Scotland and won the
competition run by the Scottish Association of Local Sports Councils on
29th/30th March.
FootballMichael Aird (S6) has been selected for a Scottish
Independent Schools’ Squad. The team will play two friendly matches
before taking on an English Independent Schools’ team at Hearts’
ground, Tynecastle on Sunday 20th April.
Jack Halley (S1) has been selected after trials for the Boys West
Region Under 13 Football Squad. This provides Jack with the opportunity
to receive quality football coaching alongside a support package that
includes fitness testing, nutritional and hydration advice, sports
psychology and lifestyle management.
Scottish U16 HockeyCarly Bisset (S5) and Jenny Morris (S3)
have both been selected for the 16 strong squad to play their Polish
counterparts in Poland this month.
Ice SkatingDennis Harrison - Grade 4
Camille Young - Grade 2
ShootingOliver Pursley (S6) was selected for the Scotland B Team to shoot in the British Schools International Match in March.
The Rotary Club of Glasgow - Primary 7 Schools' Quiz Winners Kelvinside
Academy hosted this event for the first time on 25th March, 2008. The
Kelvinside Team members from Senior Prep were Conor Boyle (Reserve),
Maxwell Boyle, Connor Davidson, Andrew Dickson and Gavin Hughes and
they won a very close and exciting contest with the other teams from
Glasgow Academy, High School of Glasgow, Jordanhill School and St.
Aloysius College. The team will now compete in the District Competition
to be held in
Clydebank Town Hall on 3rd June, 2008.
Glasgow Primary Schools' Cross CountryFor
the first time Kelvinside Academy Junior 6 Cross Country Team finished
in first place at the Glasgow Primary Schools’ Cross Country.
Hockey The
Senior 1 Hockey Team won the West District Hockey Tournament for the
first time. They finished top of their section which consisted of
Hutchesons, Glasgow Academy, Craigholme and Jordanhill. They then went
on to defeat St Aloysius College in an exciting semi final penalty
stroke competition. They then met the High School of Glasgow in the
final, whom they defeated 1 nil. The following week the Senior 1 Hockey
Team then went on to win the Marr College Tournament in Troon.
Scholars' Medals Maxwell Boyle and Gavin Hughes (SP) recipients of Kelvinside Academy Scholars’ Medals introduced for the first time this year.
