What is the PTA?

It is a partnership between parents and teachers to support all in the school community. Comprised of staff and parents/guardians, the Kelvinside Academy Parent Teacher Association (KAPTA) meets formally once a term and has several informal meetings throughout the year. All committee meetings are held at school. They are usually shorter than an hour in duration. Any parent, guardian or member of staff are welcome to attend.

What does the PTA do?

Acts as an informal channel of communication between parents and staff. The Association hosts social events for the pupils and parents throughout the year. It raises funds for the School, and provides a forum for parents and staff to communicate. Committee members and year representatives are elected tri-annually; most years of the school are represented by a parent.  The Committee works to support the school and help in a variety of ways. Any profit is used to purchase items requested and support the Bursary Fund.

Who can help?

Anyone can help at events but if you wish to be more involved you could become a year rep.  This is a parent who has volunteered to act as a point of contact, to gather opinions where appropriate, to pass on parents views and concerns at meetings and to encourage people to help out at events requiring parents presence.  Nominations for year reps are sought at the AGM which is help in September.  All are welcome to come along and enjoy cheese and wine !

How can I help?

  • Help with fundraising events e.g. fairs, ceilidhs etc.
  • Assist at social events - even volunteer to do the washing up!
  • Support the PTA - come along to the meetings, they are fun and not too frequent!
  • Share with the committee your ideas, interests and concerns.
