Community use of School Facilities The school offers its facilities for use to as many groups as possible in both Glasgow and Scotland as a whole. It participates in Glasgow "Doors Open" days and the site is used by a diverse section of the community. This year we have hosted Glasgow Scouts for their annual Gang Show production, Youth Theatre groups, Street Dancing classes, Evening classes in IT and local residents association meetings. In addition, the theatre has played host to the West of Scotland Schools' Music Festival, the National Youth Choir and there are concerts planned for the autumn to raise funds for an African Youth Charity. Our school productions have become community events, open to all, and we will be one of the venues taking part in the Glasgow West End Festival Programme this year. Local amateur sports teams such as Hillhead Cricket Club, Glasgow University, Western and GHK Hockey Clubs use the school sports hall for coaching and training and this community usage is likely to increase with the planned refurbishment of the school's climbing wall. In the last year a joint agreement has been reached with Glasgow University to allow the school campus to be used in the future for summer schools which have potential participants from both the local community and worldwide. The school pitches at Balgray are greatly in demand, providing much needed sporting facilities in the West End of Glasgow. They have been used by the following organisations during the last year: Glasgow Caledonian University Students Association (hockey), Rangers Football Club youth teams, Hillhead Mens and Ladies Hockey Club's, Hillhead RFC and Hillhead Shinty Club. Glasgow Union Sports Association (football and cricket), Touch Scotland (rugby) and numerous amateur and semi professional football teams for pre-season matches. |
