On Thursday afternoons S3 cadets take their Proficiency syllabus, learning about Sailing, Knots, Drill, Weapons, Map and Compass, Radio Communication and First Aid. S4 Cadets continue with Advanced Proficiency Training which includes Leadership, Teamwork, Skill at Arms, Navigation and Chartwork. S5 Cadets join the Army MOIT Cadre as they learn to become instructors, and in S5/6, Senior Cadets hand on their experiences to Junior Cadets by delivering the bulk of the training packages.

For the Navy, sailing is an important part of the year and summer sailing is enthusiastically undertaken at Port Edgar. There are opportunities to spend days away with the Navy on Mine CounterMeasures Days, participating in White Water Rafting and on other water-based activities. Many cadets take advantage of the extensive cadet courses on offer and will spend weeks during Easter and Summer attending Sailing, Diving, First Aid, Adventurous Training and other Camps.
