At Kelvinside Academy, we aim to educate the individual as a whole – mind, body and spirit.
Through the Nursery, Junior School and Senior School, our goal is to inspire young people to be the best that they can be in every aspect of life. We want them to embrace the opportunities that we provide that will help them grow into impressive young people with distinctive characteristics.
And what are these distinctive characteristics?
Our goal is to help nurture youngsters who can think for themselves. They will act responsibly and be respectful towards others. They will engage in many different activities in and out of the classroom with a growth mindset that will see them excel, whether it is in Academia, in Sports, Drama and the Arts or in Community Service.
We are a middle sized school. Big enough to put out quality sports teams, run successful choirs and orchestras, and properly embrace teamwork through CCF and Enterprise. And small enough for us to know and nurture each individual, whatever their strengths and weaknesses, to help them be the best that they can be. We are different because of our size and the way that allows for proper staff-pupil-parent relationships to develop. Our top academic pupils are on a par with the best in the country, but we are just as passionate when we celebrate the successes of our pupils who are not on a par with our top exam students.
For a pupil to ‘fit’ with us, they should be prepared to work hard in class, irrespective of their standard: approaching their studies with a growth mindset frequently yields spectacular results. Pupils must be prepared to join in the huge number of extra-curricular activities on offer, after school, at weekends including Saturday morning fixtures: the personal development gains from ‘joining in’ are accompanied by the forging of life-long friendships. Finally, pupils must be prepared to treat others with respect; there will no doubt be social mishaps along the road, but at the core of every one of our pupils there should be a decent person.
Our goal is to educate the whole child - mind, body and spirit. Countless former pupils are testimony to what we have helped nurture within the walls of our fine and distinguished school buildings. As a parent, you will be a vital partner in your child’s education in what we see as a way of life at Kelvinside Academy. I invite you to visit the school so that you can experience the energy and warmth of our community for yourself and at the same time discover the unique qualities of the young people here.
