DONALD WILSON, B.Acc C.A. (Chairman)

Donald joined the Board of Governors in 2014.  A Chartered Accountant, he graduated from Glasgow University and also attended the Harvard Advanced Management Programme. Donald attended Kelvinside Academy from 1967 – 1980, together with his brothers Russell and Stewart.  The family connection extends to Donald’s mother Norma, who taught Lower III for 19 years. He now lives in Edinburgh with his wife Lindsey and two sons, Andrew and Kerr.  Donald still enjoys the odd game of rugby and playing golf when he can find the time.

Ken was elected to the Board of Governors in 2007. He formed and built a well known fashion and homeware retail chain, which he sold in 2006. His business interests are now in property and other opportunities. Married to Margaret, their three children have attended or attend KA. Ken believes very strongly in self-motivation and entrepreneurship, and also a relaxing glass of wine of a Friday evening.

A former pupil of KA, Colin graduated from Aberdeen University with an LLB. He is now managing partner of a well-known firm of solicitors in Stirling. Colin has maintained strong links with the school and was elected to the Board in 2010. A resident of Bridge of Allan, married to Nicola with two children. An accomplished golfer and keen tennis player, he enjoys spending weekends with the family in Blair Atholl. Colin is a trustee of Bridge of Allan Civic Trust.

Andrina was elected to the Board in 2011. A qualified solicitor, Andrina spent 15 years working in the commercial property sector before starting her family and is, at present, a full-time mum. Married to David, their three children all attended Kelvinside Academy. Andrina has long had a love of cooking and has a large, eclectic collection of well-thumbed cookbooks - as a result she has taken up running and swimming to work off the effects.

Married to David, Jillian has three children who all attend Kelvinside Academy. Jillian has been working for thirty years in the private sector, mainly in customer service and latterly in recruitment and HR. Jillian was elected to the Board in 2011 and her outside interests include supporting Children’s 1st Charity as one of the organisers of the Heather Ball as well as spending down time in Kippford .

After a degree in History from Oxford University and three years postgraduate research, Hugh trained as a teacher in Aberdeen and worked in maintained schools in Lothian for 20 years before moving to George Watson’s College as Deputy Head in 1997.  From 2004-14 he was Head of Robert Gordon's College in Aberdeen, greatly enjoying the many ways in which the experience of pupils could be enhanced within and beyond the classroom, and the appointing and development of the best possible staff.  He is delighted to be working with KA, a school which he sees as combining the personal touch with ambition for every pupil as an individual.  His interests lie in historical research, ornithology and above all time with his family.

Alan joined the Board of Governors in 2014. He attended Kelvinside Academy from 1972-1980, and played for the cricket section of the Academical Club for several years. A qualified Chartered Accountant, he has held various senior financial positions in industry, and is currently Group Finance Director of a successful family owned business. Alan is married to Heather and has three sons, Stuart, Matthew and Alastair. Alan is a keen tennis player and enjoys the occasional game of golf.

Sandra was elected to the Board in 2016.  A people person with a large network of contacts, Sandra is heavily involved with the ‘Hearts and Balls’ Charitable Trust in conjunction with her husband Jim Taylor, MBE (1972) and is instrumental in organising their fundraising events.  Sandra has been self-employed for the last 25 years.

Married to Robin, they have three daughters, who have all enjoyed the all round education of Kelvinside Academy. June is a graduate of Dundee University, rather a long time ago and also studied part time at Napier and Strathclyde University. She has worked in Marketing in the public and private sector, including both sides of the educational fence in SCOTVEC (now SQA) and teaching Marketing at James Watt College. Since 2004 she has been a co-owner and Director of a manufacturing business with Robin. Being a Mum is her favourite activity, but as the empty nest approaches, her horses provide the mess and demands previously created by Tess, Lois and Poppy.
