The school’s aim of developing every child as a rounded individual starts in our private nursery. Your child will have the best possible start as he or she develops new cognitive, physical and emotional skills.
The combination of play and learning at our Nursery, together with its connection to the main school, is invaluable in preparing each individual child for school life. Expert staff use experiences and outcomes within the Curriculum for Excellence (Early Level) to deliver the best early years education within a safe, inspiring and fun environment.
Each child forms strong relationships with his or her key worker, who ensures planned, personalised and purposeful learning. During daily group time, each key worker leads a small group in activities devised around the interests, learning styles and developmental needs of the individual children in their care. Whether they are logical thinkers, enjoying maths and language, or prefer dancing and role play, the Nursery and Kelvinside Academy as a whole will help them to discover their talents.
Children love messy activities including painting, crafts, sand and water. They can explore colour, texture, shapes and express their creativity.
Both indoors and outdoors, children stay active and burn off their boundless energy, whatever the weather.
The children enjoy daily outdoor play. They love playing on the climbing frame and enjoy open space to run around in the fresh air. Each group makes decisions about which resources are used in the outdoor area.
By playing and learning with other children regularly from a young age, children develop social skills as they learn to share and make friends. Within our nursery, they also learn to listen, follow instructions and work well individually and in a group - essential skills for an easy transition to school.
The children are recognised as individuals and as such are encouraged to participate fully in the life of the Nursery and to put their stamp on it. The children make decisions about nursery planning, resources and activities and provide evaluations of their experiences. The staff always listen to the children to ensure they are the centre of all we do.
